A Day with the Ellis Family at Nanjing Memorial
Dear Mariel, Jade, Tommy, Alex (and now, Arabella) were once our neighbours in Regina. They now live in Shanghai and we were so happy to meet up for the day!
We met up at the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall. An important stop when visiting this city. It documented well the period in WWII when the Japanese invaded China, specifically Nanjing as it was the capital at that time. It was moving and stimulating. Some say, too big and redundant in mentioning the 300,000 victims. For our families, we appreciated the space and the kids received much from the visuals. It would have been more informative if it went beyond Nanjing's victims onto the larger view of war and it's effects from multiple sides.
We ended our day together with a meal at a restaurant we randomly chose. Well, I think Mariel has good instinct about these things! It turns out to be a 'Yunnan' style Hot Pot restaurant. For the stock, they threw in an entire fish. (Dad, you would've loved it).
[Video] Emma captured a short clip of when steam filled the entire room and we could hardly see each other!
